I am Ann Speltz, the artist and founder of Artful Quotes Cards. My paintings — typically oils on canvas, rooted in the traditions of the Dutch and Italian Baroque masters — are made with one overriding intention: to capture a feeling.
I work from life and from photographs, painting still lifes, landscapes, and scenes that carry deep personal meaning. I strive to get the light right, to find beauty in the commonplace, and to follow a feeling wherever it leads. When a painting is finished, I step back and ask myself: what did I want to say? This question is at the heart of Artful Quotes Cards.
Images speak to us, but so do words. Before I became a painter, I spent decades as a teacher, writer, and editor — working with language to shape and communicate ideas, and helping others to do the same. I believe deeply that the right words matter, and that is why I merged my two loves — art and language — to create Artful Quotes Cards. You choose the artwork that moves you, pair it with a quotation that says exactly what you want to say, and the result is a card that is genuinely, uniquely yours.
